Some art projects

Since new technologies will shape the creative output of my generation more than any one artwork, I’m fascinated by the poetic potential of emerging software, hardware, and online collaborative practices.


I like to think about art as a form of knowledge, and about art-making as a form of discovery.

Nocturnes

Video Loop. 2012. 25 min., 8’ x 6’ projection. BFA Thesis.


Video installation shot using customized drone and camera mount for aerial video. Explored the aesthetic qualities of Seattle neighborhoods at night. Onboard footage was woven with documentation of the shooting process, which carries its own sort of fantastic narrative.

Treemap

Nepo 5k Art “No-Run,” September 2011, Seattle.


Dozens of “greeting-card” recordable audio devices, triggered by a modified spring vibration sensor attached to a tiny sail. They were hung in a group of trees, and when a gust of wind blew through, coordinated sounds played.

Beacon

Site-specific interactive piece with spotlight, walkie talkies, custom electronics.


A “link” across a canal, between two neighborhoods. You can speak into the walkie-talkie, and in the far distance see a tiny light flicker to the sound of your voice.

Madam, I'm Adam

Found slides, identical twin projectors, frosted glass table, mirrors, saw horses, cast bronze. 3’ x 2’ x 3’. 2011.

Old Photo

Wood plinth, custom electronics, photograph. 1’ x 1’ x 3.5’. Academic work, 2010.


Frost covers the glass over a family photograph on a pedestal, and when you walk up to it, the frost melts over a period of about 10 seconds. A metaphor for memory and nostalgia. Inside the pedestal hides the contraption making this possible – a large heat sink in a bowl of mineral oil, and an infrared sensor.

Music for GPS:
Location-based generative music (Work-in-progress).


What if you composed music for each city block within a neighborhood? A listener would be able to traverse the neighborhood how they wished, and to experience the piece they'd have to explore and discover the relationship between the actual place and the music.
